Yes. As well as helping you find unadvertised jobs, effective networking can give you a headstart over other applicants for advertised jobs as well. Through your contacts, you may be able to:
- get insider information and insights from staff who work for employers you are applying to for jobs, and make your application and interview stand out by showing how well you understand the way they work, and how you can help them meet the challenges they face;
- find and ask a suitable member of their staff for a chat to help you improve the standard and focus of your job application; and
- learn from the experience of your peers more generally – particularly their experience in applying for similar roles to you and what did and didn’t work for them.
