Equal opportunities legislation aims to ensure that everyone gets fair treatment at work. The Equality Act 2010 gives all workers protection from discrimination at work on the grounds of age, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, and disability. (The Trade Union and Labour Relations Act 1992 also prohibits discrimination as a result of membership or non-membership of a trade union.)
