If you are being bullied for a reason related to one of the grounds protected by discrimination laws, you may be able to bring a claim based on discrimination or harassment. All of the discrimination laws are now found in one place: the Equality Act 2010.
You may have a discrimination or harassment claim if the bullying is because of sex, sexual orientation, trans-sexuality, marriage, civil partnership, pregnancy, maternity, race, nationality, disability, religion and belief, or age. In Northern Ireland, protection extends to harassment and victimisation on grounds of political opinion.
The Equality Advisory and Support Service advises and assists individuals on issues relating to equality and human rights, across England, Scotland and Wales. You can contact the advice line on tel: 0808 800 0082.
