No. There is usually a long delay between the first exposure to asbestos dust and the onset of a disease. It can take anywhere from 15 to 60 years after first exposure before the development of these fatal diseases. Current fatalities arise from exposures many years ago when asbestos was widely used, poorly controlled, and when workers and safety specialists were much less aware of the risks involved.
