Compensatory award

Definition:

If you win compensation for unfair dismissal at an employment tribunal, your award will be made up of a basic award and a compensatory award. The maximum an employee can be awarded is £78,335 under the compensatory award. This award is intended to compensate the employee for financial loss relating to the dismissal, including expenses and loss of benefits. The tribunal may make deductions from the compensatory award for a range of reasons, including if they feel you contributed in some way to your dismissal.
