We're adopting a child. Can we use Shared Parental Leave?

Yes. Only one adopting parent in a couple (called the 'primary adopter') can take statutory adoption leave. But the other member of the adopting couple (the 'secondary adopter') can take shared parental leave as long as they meet the eligibility requirements.

In particular, they must be an employee and must have 26 weeks’ service by the week you both find out you have been matched with a child.
