Does my employer have to provide a childcare voucher salary sacrifice scheme if I ask them?

Your employer is not obliged to offer a childcare voucher scheme if they don't want to. If it is something that you think you and your colleagues could benefit from, you should approach your employer and discuss it with them.

If you are in a union, you should ensure that your shop steward/rep is aware that there is a call among the workforce for the scheme, and ask them to negotiate for it on behalf of the workforce.

Childcare vouchers are not the only form of support that employers can offer, and salary sacrifice schemes are more beneficial to some employees than others, so it would be worth investigating all of the options before opting for vouchers. You can contact organisations such as the Family and Childcare Trust, if you need more information.
