I work nights and weekends. Shouldn't I be getting paid more than colleagues who work normal hours?

Often an employer will pay staff who work anti-social hours a higher wage than those who work normal office hours. However, as long as your basic wage is at least the National Minimum Wage, whether or not you are paid extra for anti-social hours depends entirely on your contract terms.

If you work in a workplace where a union is recognised, premium rates for night and weekend work are likely to have been negotiated by the union through a process known as collective bargaining. The rates will be contained in a collective agreement that is incorporated into everyone’s employment contract.
