If we are only a few minutes late for work, we lose 30 minutes' pay. Can our employer do this?

As long as the effect of losing 30 minutes of pay does not push your wages below the level of the National Minimum Wage, then as long as the rule is set out clearly in the contract documents that you accepted in order to take the job, it is not against the law.
