I work as a painter and decorator. What harm can paints and varnishes do me?

Many paints and varnishes contain organic solvents. Organic solvents can be very volatile, and when you open the tin they get into the air that you breathe. These chemicals can cause brain damage and affect your behaviour, and your employer should be replacing these solvent-based paints with water-based alternatives.
