At the end of the day, you work to get paid. How important is money to my career choice?

Of course money is a big part of any career decision. We all have to live and pay our bills, and most students will be in a substantial degree of debt. But money shouldn’t be the main factor, particularly when you’re starting out. If you’re able to get good experience and make good money, that’s great, but you should always put learning before earning in your first job(s).

There are plenty of people who take a career path strictly because of its financial rewards, and good luck to them. But it’s not a reliable recipe for genuine job satisfaction. It’s much more important to your health and wellbeing, and the happiness of those around you, to find a fulfilling career that’s right for you. That’s what will count later, rather than a few extra quid in your pocket.
