Such deductions are only lawful if there is a specific term in the contract of employment permitting the employer to do so. You must also be given a written copy of the term so that you know your liability in the event of till shortages.
Only then are deductions from wages lawful. And they must not take more than 10% of your gross pay your gross pay in any one pay packet, except for the final one.
