What is Child Tax Credit?

Child Tax Credit (CTC) is a payment for families with children under the age of 16, or under 20 if they are still in full-time education or approved training. You can claim the credit if you or your partner are responsible for at least one child or young person who usually lives with you.

Changes were made to CTC from 6 April 2017, but they included a number of exceptions. You can only make a new claim for CTC, if you don't live in a Universal Credit area; or if you have three or more children; or if you or your partner qualify for Pension Credit.
