As an individual, members did not get to choose whether their occupational scheme was contracted in or out. Contracting out, which came to an end in April 2016, determined whether or not an individual might be eligible for additional Second Pension or not.
If you were a member of a contracted-out pension in the past, it may still affect the level of state pension you receive. To find out whether this is the case, you can apply for a state pension forecast, as explained on the government web site.
