Under the statutory scheme, if you are eligible, you will receive a maximum of 39 weeks of statutory adoption pay, made up of:
- for the first six weeks, 90% of normal earnings;
- for the remaining 33 weeks, SAP at a flat rate of £145.18 per week (from April 2018), or 90% of your normal earnings if that would work out less; and
- for the remaining 13 weeks – unpaid.
The amount of statutory payments such as SAP is reviewed each year in April.
If you are paid weekly, your SAP will be paid to you weekly. If you are usually paid monthly, your SAP will be paid monthly.
Better pay than these minimum statutory amounts may have been negotiated in your workplace, especially if a trade union is recognised. Check your staff handbook or contract terms.
