When does my adoption leave end?

Once you have notified your employer of your intention to take adoption leave, your employer has 28 days in which to tell you the date that your leave will end on.

As all employees have the same entitlement to 52 weeks’ adoption leave, the date your adoption leave will end on will always be the date that falls 52 weeks after your leave start date. So if your leave started on 1 April 2018, you will be due back to work on 1 April 2019. 

If your employer fails to give you the correct notice and you return to work on the day that you thought you were supposed to return (a day that you reasonably thought to be the day after the last day of your adoption leave), your employer cannot turn you away or refuse to pay you for any work that you do.
