Thanks to European Union law and trade union campaigning, almost everyone at work in the UK has a right to take paid holidays.

Workers are currently entitled to 5.6 weeks' holiday per year. For someone working five days a week, this amounts to 28 days of annual leave. However, employers can count the (normally) eight public and bank holidays towards this total.

This section deals with the most common questions about holiday rights.
